In general, it can be said that larger and wider fins help the paddler keep the SUP board straight and bring stability to the board. With smaller fins, the board is easier to steer and small, quick turns are easier.
Depending on the board type, either one, two or three fins can be attached to the bottom of the board. One fin reduces the board’s resistance in the water and is well suited for water areas with no big waves or strong currents. The use of three fins brings more stability in larger waves and helps the board run more straight in flat waters, compared to one fin.
